Dental Compressors: Care and Repair

The dental compressor is the foundation of all work done in a dental office. Regular repair and maintenance of the dental compressor is of extreme importance. Conducting proper care and repair of dental compressors prevents loss of earning and productivity and minimizes inconvenience to patients.

The first thing to consider when conducting dental compressor repair is the level of the oil, if any, in the dental compressor. Following manufacturer’s instructions with regards to oil level is always a good idea, so read all literature carefully and develop an efficient maintenance routine. Carefully check the oil level by observing the sight glass, and ensure that the oil level inside the dental compressor is not higher than recommended by manufacturers.

Signs that a dental compressor is in need of repair include knocking or leaking sounds and noises. You may have to pay attention to the dental compressor while it is in operation. If you observe any knocking or leaking sounds check the compressor system for leaks. It is also advisable to drain the tank of any water to ensure that the air dryer is not in need of repair. If one or more of the heads in the dental compressor is not functioning efficiently, you will need to check whether a crank shaft has seized, and also whether the resistance of the winding needs to be adjusted. Checking whether the components in the start box of the dental compressor are in need of repair is also a good idea.

An introduction to dental drills

The dental drill is one of the most used tools by those in the dental health profession. It enables your dentist to drill through tooth enamel, clean teeth of plaque buildup, and shape dental fixtures such as temporary crowns. The first hand cranked dental drill was made in 1838, and has since been greatly improved by technological advances. An introduction to dental drills and the maintenance of dental drills is essential to providing quality care to patients.

The dental drill comes in the low speed and the high speed varieties. The low speed varieties can spin up to 8,000 RPM, more than three times the rotation of a standard household drill. The high speed dental drill rotates more than 250,000 RPM, and is used during dental implant surgery and other dental procedures. Maintenance of the two types of dental drills varies due to their inner components and their functions.

The high speed dental drill releases water as it spins to reduce friction between the burr and the tooth, so maintenance includes caring for the water lines and other such components. Dental drill maintenance is essential since damage to the nerve of the tooth can occur if it is allowed to get too hot when in contact with the high speed dental drill. On the contrary, the low speed dental drill does not include a built-in water source, but is aided by water sprayed from jets by the dental assistant. Regular maintenance is important to ensure proper functioning of these dental drills.

Dental Fix Announces First Dentist-Owned Franchise

National mobile dental repair franchise, assists dentists and dental professionals in expanding business opportunities with new revenue streams

DAVIE, Fla. – April 13, 2015 – Dental Fix RX, a national mobile dental equipment repair company, has announced the launch of its first dentist-owned mobile repair center. Owned by Dr. Brett Mangum of Mangum Dental in Prescott, Arizona, the state-of-the-art van will supply dentist offices in the area with prompt, on-site equipment service, repair and replacements. Mangum’s franchise marks the first Dental Fix opened by a practicing dentist, and the second opened by a dental professional.

Mangum’s franchise was awarded in March of this year, while office manager of Lenox Village Dentistry in Nashville, Brett Peaks, launched his Dental Fix operation late last year. As dental professionals looking to invest in ownership opportunities, Mangum and Peaks turned to Dental Fix to fill a niche market in their respective areas.

“It was an opportunity that made perfect sense for me as a dentist,” said Mangum. “Before owning a Dental Fix franchise, I would have to send my tools and equipment offsite to be repaired or replaced. This inconvenience impacts all dental practices, and Dental Fix was the solution to ensure we can all operate efficiently and serve more patients.”

As a $38 billion dollar industry, fixing dental equipment is a costly, but necessary, operating expense for dentists nationwide. Dentists and dental office managers alike see the impacts of maintenance needs on overall profits, making Dental Fix an attractive solution to the challenges facing their practices. Dental Fix trained technicians operate out of state of the art mobile repair centers, and deliver efficient on-site service and replacements for all types of dental equipment, usually available within 24 hours.

“The Dental Fix franchise model is designed to be accessible to a wide variety of individuals, and our dedication to the dental industry makes ownership an ideal method for dentists to expand their business opportunities,” said Scott Mortier, vice president of business development for Dental Fix RX. “By investing in a franchise, they can continue to provide outstanding dental work to patients while reaping the rewards of convenient business ownership.”

Currently the only on-site dental equipment repair franchise in North America, Dental Fix offers customers customized service that produces high-quality repairs in a short amount of time. It now provides regular service to more than 10,000 dentist offices across the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and is committed to the repair, service, and maintenance of all types of dental equipment.

Repair of adec handpiece

Understanding when and how to conduct repair of Adec handpieces is the first step in preserving the life of your A-dec handpiece. From diagnostics to routine care and repair of your A-dec handpiece, following manufacturer’s recommendations is key.

Whether you choose to repair your A-dec handpieces yourself, or send it to a professional, handpieces should meet factory specifications at all times. Proper disassembly and thorough cleaning of your A-dec handpiece should be the first step in the care and repair of these handpieces. During routine maintenance, a handpiece maintenance solution that does not contain aldehyde should be used with your A-dec handpiece lubrication station to clear buildup from the rotating parts inside your A-dec handpieces. You should also flush the air and water cooler channels inside the A-dec handpieces with the cleaning solution. From time to time you may need to replace or repair the tubing on the A-dec handpiece dock.

As often as possible, you should use only certified genuine replacement parts to repair your A-dec handpieces. These parts should come with a manufacturer’s warranty to protect you from incurring further costs if there is an issue with a recently repaired A-dec handpiece. Keeping all receipts of procedures and parts changed during the repair process is recommended for warranty purposes. There are times when routine repairs include replacing the turbine in your A-dec handpiece. If there is damage to the head shell, light, or glass rod of your A-dec handpiece, it is advisable to have a professional repair the handpiece.
