Dental Fix Rx Surpasses 20,000 Customer Mark

Mobile Dental Equipment Repair Franchise Achieves Customer Milestone with More than 125 Franchsie Territories in Operation across North America

DAVIE, Fla. Dental Fix Rx, a national mobile dental equipment repair service franchise, has crossed the 20,000 customer mark.

With more than 125 franchise territories in operation throughout North America, each Dental Fix Rx franchise owner services up to 350 dental practices in their local community. The fast-growing franchise is revolutionizing the dental service industry by delivering immediate, on-demand equipment service, hand-piece repairs and cost-effective consumable products through its network of highly-trained franchise professionals.

“The average dentist spends about $6,000 a year servicing and repairing existing equipment, traditionally calling on larger companies whose business model is based on selling them new equipment. As an owner-operator-driven model working on a business-to-business basis, we are typically 20 percent cheaper than the competition  because we don’t add additional fees like trip fees to the bill,” said Scott Mortier, EVP of Business Development for Dental Fix Rx. “Plus, our franchise owners live in the communities they service, so they’re able to respond to most  service calls the same day. Dental Fix is the faster, more cost-effective solution – and, the dental industry knows it.”

Since its founding in 2009, Dental Fix has awareded more than 200 franchises throughout North America. Already this year, the company has signed 13 new franchise agreements and expects to award another 40 before the end of the year.

The franchise’s success is largely due to the fact that all franchisees attend an intensive nine-week training program at the Dental Fix Rx corporate office to learn all the ins-and-outs of business operations as well as diagnosing equipment problems and how to repair them. Therefore, no prior industry experience is necessary to become a Dental Fix Rx franchisee. The corporate team also provides centralized technological and account management software services.

Another key growth driver for the brand is the added value Dental Fix brings to dental practices. For example, the Darby Group, the nation’s largest all-telesales dental products distributor, became an equity partner in Dental Fix Rx in 2016. Beyond the equity stake in the company, through this relationship Dental Fix Rx franchisees are able to offer Darby Dental Supply products to dental practices and also provide dental equipment service and repair to Darby Dental Supply customers. Beyond repairing equipment when it malfunctions and providing a direct line to great supply cost savings, Dental Fix offers regular maintenance to help extend the life of the equipment through its Unlimited Service Plan, and can help a practice relocate or give the practice a facelift with new cabinetry or reupholstered chairs.

Former Chief Financial Officer Finds Joy in Dental Repair

Name: Philip May

Launched Their Dental Fix Rx Franchise: I purchased my first territory in April 2015 and the second in Nov 2015.

Service Area: Salt Lake City and Sandy, Utah

Prior to becoming a Dental Fix Rx franchisee, Phil worked in corporate finance as a divisional CFO. While he enjoyed leading growth strategy and building up a great team around him, as he rose through the ranks, he found himself more and more detached from the product provided to the customer.

Becoming a business owner has ultimately tied him closer to the type of service he provides to his customers because the feedback goes directly to him. Even with his second van and hiring a service technician to help cover his territories, May has a close eye on the business and customer service. May was attracted to the singular focus at Dental Fix and it has been rewarding and a refreshing transition from the complexity and rigidity of leading in a large organization.

In addition to the franchise being a unique concept that fills a distinct niche, May found interest in the Dental Fix business model because he always found joy in the challenge of figuring out why mechanical items were not performing properly. He also saw the value of creating long-term relationships with dentists and how that would beneficially growth his business by word of mouth.

  • Q: What advice do you have for individuals who want to own their own franchise?

To be successful in any job, you have to have some level of passion for the work. Be honest with yourself and make sure that the franchise you choose is going to be filled mostly with tasks that you enjoy doing regardless of the money. If you don’t like leading staff, don’t chose a franchise with lots of employees. As part of your research talk to people already in the business and ask them the hard questions about what they like, don’t like and their experience working with the franchisor. Asking specific questions will help you formulate a realistic projection of the business and the road to profitability. Finally, be realistic about what the franchise needs to produce financially for you to be happy. Make sure you’re willing to follow the model to reap the full benefits of the work.

  • Q: Where did you get most of your advice/do most of your research?

Dental Fix was very helpful in answering my questions and encouraged me to call existing franchise owners to learn about their experience. Attending discovery day clinched the deal for me. As part of discovery day, I rode along with an experienced franchise owner and saw first-hand how the system worked, and what the work of repairing and servicing dental equipment entailed. After reviewing the training and support provided to franchisees, I felt confident that I would enjoy the work and be able to grow my business successfully. Once I was able to get a glimpse into the “day in the life,” of a Dental Fix franchisee, it put a lot of my worries aside and put the lay out of the business in perspective for me.

  • Q: Why franchising?

I always wanted to open my own business not only for the financial rewards, but also to see what I was capable of. While working in the corporate world, I became an expert in a narrow function, but as an entrepreneur, I have to master and succeed in many areas in order to succeed. When I began looking at starting-up, or buying an existing non-franchised business, the risk of failure and the time it would take to gain success raised a lot of uncertainties. I didn’t want to spend months trying approaches that may or may not work, so I began looking at franchise concepts. I liked that a franchise provides a system and formula, which when diligently followed, leads to a much more predictable outcome. Dental Fix Rx was the franchise that checked all the boxes I was looking for and gave me the confidence to jump in and execute that formula. With the support of corporate, I’m able to focus on the jobs ahead while they help with my marketing, customer service, appointment setting, technical support needs and vendor relationships.

Dental Fix Rx Shares Nevada Expansion Plans with VEGAS INC.

National Mobile Dental Equipment Repair Franchise Plans to Fill Eight Nevada Territories in Next 18 Months

DAVIE, Fla. Dental Fix Rx’s Executive Vice President of Business Development, Scott Mortier, was recently featured in an article in VEGAS INC. Titled “Franchising flurry: Nevada projected to be No. 3 state in franchise employment growth,” the article details the economic impact franchising has on Nevada communities, citing examples of franchisors, franchisees and well-known franchising experts that share the value franchise companies bring to the market.

With only one franchisee in Reno and a Las Vegas franchise partner set to open this year, Mortier explains why the high volume of dentists in the area will benefit from Dental Fix’s faster fix solution. “The average dentist spends about $6,000 a year servicing and repairing existing equipment, traditionally calling on larger companies whose business model is based on selling them new equipment.” Mortier adds, “As an owner-operator-driven model working on a business-to-business basis, our hourly rate is about 20 percent cheaper than the competition.”

Due to high demand, Mortier expects to fill three open territories in Southern Nevada and five other available markets in the state within the next 18 months.

The article applauds Dental Fix Rx’s extreme success rate: “The company has experienced steady growth, adding about 40 franchises annually.” The franchise’s unprecedented success is largely due to the fact that all franchisees attend an intensive nine-week training program at the Dental Fix Rx corporate office to learn all the ins-and-outs of business operations as well as diagnosing equipment problems and how to repair them. Therefore, no prior industry experience is necessary to become a Dental Fix Rx franchisee. The corporate team also provides centralized technological and account management software services.

From Minor TV Repairs to Handling the St. Louis Dental Community’s Repair Needs

From Minor TV Repairs to Handling the St. Louis Dental Community’s Repair Needs

Name: Mike Swider

Launched Their Dental Fix Rx Franchise: March 2013

Service Area: St. Louis

Mike Swider always wanted to own his own business. Throughout college, he used his go-getter attitude to establish a unique side hustle. He would find deals on Craigslist for TVs that were often broken, fix them and sell them around campus. The TVs would only require minor repairs and the payout covered a couple vacations. It took off and at one point he was going to hire someone to run online sales but chose to move on after graduation.

Swider graduated from Columbia College in 2011 with a double major in Marketing and Management as well as a minor in Accounting and Finance with an emphasis in sales. Prior to becoming a Dental Fix franchisee, he was an Assistant Manager at Sherwin Williams for about a year. He was placed in a small town outside of St. Louis and when they wouldn’t allow him to relocate to a larger city, he chose to go into business for himself.

After his Dad brought the Dental Fix Rx opportunity to his attention, he wasn’t easily convinced that franchising was right for him. He didn’t understand why he would give anyone else some of his hard earned money. Yet, once he crunched the numbers for starting out on his own vs. joining a well established franchise support system, he took the leap of faith into entrepreneurship.

  • Q: What were the most unexpected challenges of opening your franchise? In the beginning, I had to get used to the fee structure that is built into the Dental Fix Rx business model. The profit margins have to be high to receive a profit. Yet, once you gain the client’s trust, it quickly moves into a snowball effect into how many calls you’re receiving. Dentists were intimidating at first; they question your character and demand to know why your services are worth investing in. It’s just getting them to try you out and letting the rates and faster fix solution speak for themselves. An unspoken bond is created when the dentist understands that you’re a small business owner, just like they are.

  • Q: What advice do you have for individuals who want to own their own franchise? I’d say to stay away from my territory but to go for it! I found success by keeping my head down and kept plugging away. In the beginning, there will be slow times but learn to never leave money on the table. A doctor may come to you for one thing but ask him or her what else you may be able to help with. Also, I wouldn’t go for the big sale right away. Developing that relationship first and building up trust with the dentist is the real key turner to success at Dental Fix.

  • Q: Initially, the first 6-12 months of owning a small business are the hardest. Tell me about your experience.  It was challenging to get face time with the dentist. With the dentist being the decision maker, the biggest challenge is getting them to hear you out. You don’t know their schedule or when they will be in the front office area. Corporate does provide sales training tips and suggests stopping by the office on Fridays, since the dentist is most likely working on paperwork and the office might be closed. I’ve found it helpful to time your pitch when a dentist is finishing up with a patient. A majority of the time, they will walk the patient up to the front. While they may not be the first person you speak to, the dentist will at least be in earshot to hear what you have to offer.

  • Q: What’s your go-to advice for success? How do you relieve stress? In business and in life, I found great relief when I learned to stop comparing myself to others. Instead, I focus on self-comparison and striving to be better than the man I was yesterday. In the past, I would get down on myself when I would learn of others buying a home or purchasing a new car. When I was living at home, I knew what I was doing was going to take time. Now, I’m happy to say I’m achieving everything I set out to do by focusing on my progress and not anyone else’s. I enjoy hunting, hiking and am a competitive chef in my spare time. I’ve traveled on the local level for competitive BBQ and Iron Chef type contests up in Kansas City. With Dental Fix Rx, I’m able to have a life outside of the service van. Recently, I was able to plan a trip where I knocked off a bunch of my “bucket list” items. I went skydiving and, this summer, I plan to get certified to jump by myself.
